‘Voices from the Reserves (Sept. 2024)’

Canadians never get to hear the voices of Aboriginal reserve residents – only those of Aboriginal leadership and their academic and media ‘allies’. However, Aboriginal social media provides an avenue for their expression. Names have been omitted in order to protect them from the official reprisals that are the norm on far too many reserves…

“For those of you fighting the corruption and fraud within your leadership, please remember that it does take a toll on you mentally, emotionally and various others forms of negative effects like loss of sleep or focus from your work. Sometimes these are battles you will never win. Not everyone cares as much as you do, sometimes you have to rely on Karma to do all the fighting for you. Know your battles, but don’t let it take you away from meaningful time with your family. Also remember, these leaders have to sleep at night also knowing they have to face their reality in the morning. Hiy Hiy.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Facts. No one else cares here on my nation, with all the corruption exposed. Little to no support and I’ve been sued. Would I do it all again? Of course.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Yup, I feel defeated sometimes, but it’s getting worse up here in my hometown.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“OMG ! Thank you for this. My son just couldn’t do it anymore. He quit long time ago. But lately he’s been thinking about getting involved again, now he’s had a rest.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“I needed to see this. I haven’t put my grievances forth yet. Struggling with it, yet I know I have to. I think they don’t believe in karma. Riding so high. They need to be at least called out on it. Then let Creator deal with it. Prayers up for all our nations.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“They throw money at the right crowds, Funny how many will stay quiet when given a few crumbs, Just as guilty as the thieves….IMO.”

“Many communities are living under dictatorships. The next government needs to reinstate the Transparency Act; clearly, a large majority of FN leaders are incapable of managing their own communities with integrity and honour.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Important fact; This current federal Liberal government is and has been the HIGHEST spending government body EVER in regards to Indigenous monies.

“This is why the majority of leaders are null and spiritless.

“They have been bought and are enchanted by the federal dollars. If there was ever a financial audit on reserve monies, the misappropriation would be in the billions nationally. True.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“This includes Métis where we are seeing lavish lifestyles and Presidents getting rich off their peoples’ money. Yet, their elected officials are too busy depositing cash handouts and failing to see the corrupt system. Soon they will have a “treaty” signed. ‘This is Their Moment’ campaign up in Saskatchewan is a prime example.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“How much is the average salary for a band manager on a first nation community? We have FNEA council members who hired 2 individuals without posting the positions. 1 job opening was a band manager and assistant band manager. One is being paid at $150,000. And the other one, $120,000. Per year. With no credentials to back up those kind of salaries. Mind you, those are the councillor’s friend ‘n’ family members.”

“Ah, good ole nepotism 🙄.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“It’s so embarrassing to our nations. We used to be concerned for ALL; now, these uneducated, unaware “leaders” only look out for themselves and their families or White gfs!!! lololol…shame on them.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Sounds like our nation. The first thing the chief did was give all but one councillor (the one not in her pocket) huge raises.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Us natives need to take a page out of Pierre Poilievre’s book and start calling out our corrupt leaders.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“I think when these people run and go talk to the people we need people to ask those tough questions. Like what makes you any different from any other person trying to get those spots? How are you gonna generate money back into the reservation to create more jobs and getting people off welfare? What programs are gonna be created to keep our younger generation away from crime drugs and gangs? Those questions need to be asked. And the last question should be – how are you gonna stop the drugs ruining our nation and people?”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“They all scheme together, advise each other in how to rob our nations.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“We must begin looking at these guys as an Organized Crime Group. And they have to be dealt with through Organized Crime Law.

1. The Indian Act federal chiefs,

2. The Indian Act federal chiefs’ non-profit corporations,

3. The Indian Act federal chiefs’ advisors.

“They pay advisors who tell them how to do it, so the advisors are included in the scheme.”

“Us poor Li’l Indians just can’t seem to get ahead, eh? Unless of course your relatives are in the finance dept. Or your whole family & closest relatives are holding profitable access to monies.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Band members live in fear every day of the powers that be cutting them off of all resources, so no one ever says anything; thus, giving the admin permission to steal. Greed and control. Money is blown on services , bbq’s , community events , giveaways to visitors etc. But never is any given to make the lives of the people in the community have a healthy lifestyle or safe place to sleep.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Our nation advertises for education, masters, degrees, high qualifications then hires their friend with nada.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“This seems like it goes on on all the reserves.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“That was their qualifications: FAMILY and FRIEND. It is the same on a lot of First Nations.”

“In our band, it tops 200k/person for Chief and Council (varies depending on how much they claim for “transportation expenses”, always several thousand). We have 6 positions on council and wages for those positions is over $1.25 million per year. They’re getting paid just as much or more than MP’s.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“That’s money taken from the people. That’s ridiculous, getting paid that amount with no credentials, education or possibly experience. I went to university as a BSN and don’t make that much, “tax free” to boot! 🤨.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“I know my cousin who is a chief of up north not too far from Cold Lake reserve and the band counsel dollars he made $1.5 million, and then there’s three years on his wages that are missing on audit. But what I’m concerned about is they’re using members money from membership to invest for their own private investments.

“I believe that all Chief and counsel should be audited now and again to make sure that there’s no corruption; if there is, that they prosecuted in the full extent of the law.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Nepotism at its best. I knew this would happen. That’s why the Government amended the original Huron treaty. The chiefs were giving money to whom they wanted and kept money for himself. This was the people’s money. Not his to control.

“Our chiefs totally disregarded the amended part of the Huron treaty. So here is history 150 years later repeating itself. Where was the transparency? They never did answer that.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“That is the common thing in FN country – Nepotism.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“So many policies, code of ethics, conflict of interest, election codes, hiring committees, CEO’s, C&C, and no enforcement policy. Hmmmm…”

“You should see how stupid the Squamish council is … It’s a huge scandal here and you never see the council, you only see them travelling around the world having the time of their lives.

“This council could not hold a job at McDonald’s if their life depended on it. It’s so horrible to watch this huge scandal here. In 24 years, they spent 2.6 billion dollars and not one detailed financial report on all this money. 95% of the members live in poverty and they live a life of luxury off the backs of the members suffering.

“We passed a forensic audit at a general meeting and now we are in court trying to get a court order to investigate all this corruption.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Investigate Enoch Cree ‘Nation’ (AB). Hundreds of Millions missing since Casino opened (17 years). People haven’t got ANY payout from River Cree yet!, Ghost Jobs, Corporations, Companies, Boards – We got it ALL. Corruption at its finest. Too Many Of Our People on the Streets, Shouldn’t be that way, We Need ALL These First Nation C&C’s Exposed, Investigated.”

What’s Happening in Frog Lake?’ (Corruption) {Sept.7, 2022}:

“If Aboriginal reserves were converted into municipalities, it would provide the legal means of addressing these issues. Aboriginals deserve the same rights as all other Canadians. Maintaining the anachronism of reserves simply harms many reserve residents – and drives many away:

For as long as I could remember there have been issues in my community of Frog Lake ‘First Nation’ {a ‘nation’ of 3,513 people}. You see band councillors get brand new homes for their close friends and family members while elders never got a home ever. Some people get up to three homes under their name…

More Divisive CBC Propaganda’ (Attawapiskat) {July 26, 2019}:

“The CBC continues to do its utmost to create racial division and resentment in Canada. Daily stories about Attawapiskat never mention the massive reserve corruption that is at the root of their problems {See links below}. Instead, it’s all Canada’s fault. In this story, they even mention the St. Anne’s Residential School’s “electric chair” — a story that was long ago debunked as fiction. Shame…”

A Little North Korea’ (Ojibway ‘Nation’ of Saugeen/Nepotism) {June 15, 2019}:

If this was a municipality, instead of a remnant of segregation, all of this backwards nonsense could be ended once and for all:

The ailing and embattled ‘lifetime’ chief of a small Ojibway ‘First Nation’ {aboriginal community} in Ontario announced this month he was appointing his wife to replace him at the helm of the community. Band members vow to fight appointment, fearing continuation of ‘dictatorship’.”

Another Result of Reserve Dysfunction’ (Saskatoon Shooting/Onion Lake) {Feb.28, 2019}:

“Here is yet another repercussion of Canada’s segregated reserve system for aboriginals. Many reserves are simply drug and alcohol-infested ghettos where the rule of law and civil rights are often non-existent, and the lawlessness is spreading into Canadian cities…”

Liard Update’ (Yukon ‘FN’ Corruption) {May 11, 2018}:

I am currently being oppressed by c.c.of the liard first nation, watson lake, yukon territory, Canada, for being outspoken about a forensic audit and the corruption that’s destroying my first nation. So they keep me out of work. I live in deplorable conditions but refuse to be driven out of town; for that reason, my children also suffer.”

Court Upholds Reserve Election Ruling’ (Electoral Fraud) {Mar.6, 2023}:

“In March 2020, the Red Pheasant ‘First Nation’ (RP‘FN’) {a ‘nation’ of 2,570 people} held an election for its chief and councillors. Clinton Wuttunee, incumbent chief, ran for re-election. Gary Nicotine ran for councillor. Both were part of “Team Clinton”. They both won by a significant margin. The Federal Court annulled Wuttunee’s and Nicotine’s elections. Wuttunee and Nicotine both committed multiple instances of serious electoral fraud and several contraventions of the ‘First Nations’ Election Act, 2014’ (‘FN’EA), including vote buying and related activities, and of the ‘First Nations’ Elections Regulations’ relating to mail-in votes, the court said.”

Try Telling The Truth’ (‘No-Go’ Zone) {Sept.18, 2022}:

“It started with this Chief’s tweet:

Today a young First Nations man died in Onigaming. 911 was called. The ambulance parked at the edge of our reserve wouldn’t come help. As his family provided chest compressions, the paramedics let this young man die.

This is racism.”

Rampant Sexual Abuse in Treaty 3 Territory{Aug.24, 2023}:

Evidence points to an epidemic of sexual abuse across the territory. The police-reported sexual assault crime rate across Treaty 3 in 2021 was 10 times higher than the national average.”

“An APTN investigation has identified dozens of sexual abuse victims across ‘First Nations’ {‘Aboriginal communities’} in ‘Treaty 3 territory’ in what survivors describe as a silent epidemic that has gone unaddressed for generations.”

‘First Nations’ property rights double-edged {Reserve Land} {November 19, 2020}:

Repost from Nov.19, 2013:

There have been many attempts to solve the “Indian problem” over the decades… Nothing seems to work out as planned; a poisonous legacy continues to haunt us, whether American or Canadian, aboriginal or mainstream. One idea, however, keeps reappearing — that of incorporating aboriginal people into the mainstream capitalist system through private property ownership. This idea re-emerged in Canada in the late 1960s in a government white paper that recommended converting reserve lands into private property that would be owned by tribal Bands or individual members…”

Apartheid Kills’ (Innu Suicides) {January 15, 2017}:

A Quebec coroner’s report on five suicides in two Innu communities in the province said a system similar to apartheid is at the root of the problems that led to the people’s deaths… Lefrancois said the problems in these communities are largely rooted in the reserve system…”
